Yorkshire Day was a hot, sunny and sticky day but it did not stop us enjoying what makes the world go round- lots of yummy cake washed down with plenty of Yorkshire Tea! As organiser of the York Clandestine Cake Club I held a special cake club event at my house where we all sat outside in the gorgeous evening sun to enjoy the delicious cakes. Yorkshire Tea very kindly sponsored our special event and we were sent a fabulous bumper box of Yorkshire Tea themed goodies to help our event go along with a swing!
The venue for CCC York’s “Celebrating Yorkshire Day” event- my own back garden which is in the Vale of York looking out towards the White Horse of Kilburn.
Yorkshire Tea balloons tied up on the gate! Different colours to represent the four different types of Yorkshire Tea- orangey red for the ordinary tea, gold for the Gold Variety, blue for the decaffeinated type and green for the Hard Water version!
Even though it was a hot day we still enjoyed our Yorkshire themed cakes along with a good old chat as the evening wore on. We kept nipping inside to get more and more slices of cake. Here’s a selection of pictures to show what a great evening we had.

- Phil’s Chocolate Yorkshire Rose Cake. All of us were very impressed with his decorating skills.
Mel’s Wensleydale and Apple Crumble Cake. A great taste of sweet and savoury in one cake.
Heidi’s Savoury Yorkshire Ham and Cheese with Olive Cake which was a welcome choice against the sugar rush from the other sweet cakes!
Rach made a Yorkshire Rose Victoria Sponge Cake. The buttercream on top was swirled to look like a pretty rose.
My Harrogate Sponge Cake– a fatless sponge cake filled with strawberry jam and cream bought in Harrogate!!!
My Ripon Spice Cake– it’s a fruit cake made with milk and butter but with added mixed spice and nutmeg. Traditionally served with a slice of Wensleydale cheese on the side!
I also made this Coffee and Pecan Cake- using Taylor’s of Harrogate Imperial Coffee.
My family also came to join in the fun: My mum who was staying with us at the time was a massive help and ended up on teamaking duty! I hope my Mum gets to join her local CCC as I’m sure she will enjoy it. My hubby and kids enjoyed trying the cakes too, although Charlie our greedy labrador tried to get in on the action making himself look cute and by trying to beg pieces of cake off everyone’s plates!

Rob cut himself a massive wedge of the chocolate cake! He also finished another slice for breakfast the next day!
It was lovely to welcome Heidi and Sharon to the group and also to catch up with everyone. We’re already looking forward to our next event which is to be a Book Launch at Monks Cross (York) Hobbycraft on Saturday 7th September from 2-4pm. If you would love to join in the fun, click here:
